CHARLOTTE, N.C. (May 25, 2026) – Noel León, the 2021 Formula 4 United States Championship (F4 U.S.) driver champion, earned his first FIA Formula 2 win in the Montreal Sprint Race on Saturday afternoon. With a superb drive at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve, the 21-year-old racer from Mexico won the sprint with a several-second advantage for Campos Racing.
In his rookie season of Formula 2 competition, León rolled off third for the 28-lap sprint race. His early laps were filled with tight racing and position changes during a fierce battle with Invicta Racing’s Joshua Duerksen, but a mid-race Safety Car gave him another opportunity at the lead. Making use of the slipstream and DRS into Turn 12, León overtook the lead. Managing a second Safety Car restart, he maintained the race lead and ultimately crossed the finish line with a 3.7-second margin.
The victory marked the first of León’s F2 career, and the third win of 2026 for Campos Racing.
León’s climb on the FIA formula ladder has been seven years in the making. Kicking off his efforts in 2019 in the NACAM Formula 4 Championship, León came to the United States to take on F4 U.S. in 2021. With two wins and 10 podiums, he secured the title with a 55-point margin over second-place, before continuing his climb in the Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine FRECA in 2022. After spending 2023 in Euroformula Open, León moved to FIA Formula 3 in 2024, and graduated to FIA Formula 2 in 2026.
